Classroom Voice Level Chart

A free voice level chart to show on the board, so students always know how loud they should be. Tap a level from 0 (silent) to 4 (outside voice) and it fills the screen with a big number, picture and description.

Many classrooms use a 0–4 voice scale from kindergarten through middle school. You can rename the levels to match the chart your school already uses.

How to use it in class

  1. Pick the level. Tap 0 to 4 for the activity – for example 0 for a test, 2 for partner work.
  2. Put it on the board. Use fullscreen so the current level is the first thing students see.
  3. Switch as you go. Tap a new level when the activity changes, or press 0–4 on a keyboard or clicker.
  4. Make it yours. Open “Change the names and descriptions” to match your class chart. Your changes are saved on this device.
  5. Check the volume. Pair it with the Noise Meter to see whether the room matches the level you set.

Classroom ideas

Teach the levels first

Practice each level together: students try a whisper, a partner voice and a classroom voice while you tap through the chart.

Set it before every activity

Make choosing the voice level part of each transition – “Reading time, voice level 0” – then tap it on the board.

Students in charge

Let a student helper change the level when activities change. It works well as a classroom job.
