Spelling Bee – Spelling Practice Game
A free spelling practice game that reads each word out loud, so students spell from listening – just like a real spelling test. Type the word, check it, and move on to the next.
Choose a practice list for grades 1–5, or type in your own weekly spelling words. Practice mode gives hints and extra tries; Test mode gives one try per word and a list of words to practice at the end.
How to use it in class
- Choose your words. Pick a grade list, or tap “My words” and type one word per line. Your list is saved on this device.
- Pick a mode. Practice gives a letter-count hint and up to three tries; Test gives one try per word.
- Listen. Each word is read aloud. Tap “Hear the word” to hear it again, or “Slower” for a slower reading.
- Spell it. Type the word and press Enter or tap Check. Capital letters don’t matter.
- Practice what you missed. The results list every word to practice, and “Practice these” starts a new round with just those words.

Frequently asked questions
Does it read the words out loud?
Yes, using your browser’s built-in voice. If a browser can’t speak, each word flashes on screen briefly instead.
Where do the grade lists come from?
They’re practice lists of common words for each grade, chosen for this site – not an official curriculum list – so you can always use your own words instead.
Do capital letters matter?
No. “February” and “february” both count.
Is my word list private?
Yes. It’s saved only in your browser on this device.
