Comparing Numbers Game
A free comparing numbers game: two numbers, and students choose <, = or >. After each answer the hungry alligator appears with its mouth open toward the bigger number.
Levels go from numbers to 10 (with dots to count) up to millions and decimals – including tricky ones like 0.5 and 0.45.
How to use it in class
- Pick the numbers. To 10, to 100, to 1,000, big numbers, or decimals.
- Compare. Choose less than, equal to or greater than.
- Meet the alligator. It always opens its mouth toward the bigger number.
- Read why. The answer is written out in words, like “64 is greater than 46”.
Classroom ideas
Act it out
Have students make alligator arms toward the bigger number.
Same digits
Bigger levels often use the same digits in a different order – talk about place value.
